In 1995, a working clay pit was nearing the end of its economic life and having restored the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Tim Smit was on the lookout for a setting to showcase the worlds most important plants.
The story continues with a sketch on a napkin which slowly evolves in to the magnificent build you see today. The doors of the Eden Project officially opened on March 17th 2001.
